Gopalganj travel guide, Dhaka Division

Gopalganj lies in the low wetlands south-west of Dhaka, crossed by the Madhumati and other rivers. It is the birthplace of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the founding leader of Bangladesh, and his mausoleum at Tungipara is the district's best-known site. Other heritage includes the Orakandi Thakur Bari temple complex and the Ulpur Zamindar Bari. The Dhaka–Khulna highway passes through the district. About 1.30 million people live in its roughly 1,469 km² (2022 census).
