About Momin Mosque

Momin Mosque in Burirchar village, Mathbaria upazila of Pirojpur, is a mosque made entirely of wood and assembled without nails. A local philanthropist, Momin Uddin Akon, began it in 1913 because the nearest mosque was far away; he first tried brick but switched to wood to match the village's wooden houses, and it took about twenty artisans, mainly from Swarupkathi, seven years to finish.

The woodwork is arranged in careful geometric patterns, carved and painted in natural colours with leaves, flowers and fruit, including pineapples, alongside calligraphy. The Department of Archaeology listed it as national heritage in 2003, and restoration began in 2008.
