Padma Bridge

The road and rail bridge over the Padma linking Mawa in Munshiganj with Janjira in Shariatpur. It is in Shariatpur district, Dhaka Division.

About Padma Bridge

The Padma Multipurpose Bridge crosses the Padma, the main channel of the Ganges in Bangladesh, linking Louhajang in Munshiganj with Zajira in Shariatpur and part of Shibchar in Madaripur. It opened on 25 June 2022 and is the longest bridge in the country, about 6.15 km in 41 spans of roughly 150 m each.

It is a two-level steel truss bridge, with a four-lane road on top and a single railway track below, and its piles go down as deep as 127 m, among the deepest of any bridge in the world, because of the river's width and soft bed. It links the less developed southwest with the north and east of the country, and more than 15,000 vehicles were crossing it each day on average in its first year.
