Sirajgonj district guideThe long road and rail bridge over the Jamuna that links Sirajganj with Tangail. It is in Sirajgonj district, Rajshahi Division.
The Jamuna Multipurpose Bridge crosses the Jamuna between Bhuapur in Tangail on the east bank and Sirajganj on the west. Opened in June 1998 and 4.8 km long, it was among the longest bridges in the world when built and is now the second-longest in Bangladesh after the Padma Bridge.
The Jamuna is one of the three great rivers of Bangladesh and, together with the Padma, splits the country roughly in half; before the bridge, all road and rail traffic between east and west depended on slow and often disrupted ferries. After the separate Jamuna Railway Bridge opened in 2025, the rail tracks on this bridge were removed to widen the roadway.
