About Ramsagar

Ramsagar, at Tajpur near Dinajpur town, is one of the largest man-made tanks in Bangladesh: just over a kilometre long and about 190 m wide. It is believed to have been dug in the 18th century, before the Battle of Plassey, by Raja Ramnath of Dinajpur, after whom it is named.

The tank and its tree-lined embankments form Ramsagar National Park, about 28 hectares, declared a national park in 2001. Mango, jamun and tamarind trees grow on the banks, and the water draws herons, jacanas, kingfishers and other wetland birds, along with turtles and many kinds of fish.
