About Chini Mosque, Saidpur
Chini Masjid, the "china mosque", in Saidpur town of Nilphamari, began in 1863 as a small prayer house built by Haji Bakir Ali Ahmed. Later generations of the founder's family, cloth merchants, extended it, and in the mid-20th century decorated it with broken china and glass brought from Kolkata, as there was no ceramics factory in the region at the time.
About 23 tonnes of chinaware and glass chips and 283 pieces of marble cover the building, and it has 27 minarets, five of which were never finished.
