About Hakaluki Haor

Hakaluki Haor is one of the largest freshwater marshes in Asia and probably the largest in Bangladesh, covering about 181 km² across Moulvibazar (Barlekha, Kulaura and Juri) and Sylhet (Golapganj and Fenchuganj). It is bounded in part by the Kushiara River to the north and is fed by streams such as the Madhabchhara coming down from the hills.

Around 558 species of animals and birds have been recorded here, including several threatened ones. About 190,000 people live around it. The government has declared it an Ecologically Critical Area.
