About Madhabkunda Waterfall

Madhabkunda in Barlekha upazila of Moulvibazar is one of the highest waterfalls in Bangladesh. The Gangamara stream drops about 49 m (162 ft) from the rocky Patharia Hill into a deep pool and flows on as the Madhabchhara, which eventually reaches Hakaluki Haor. The fall runs all year and swells in the monsoon, when a second stream joins the main one.

The site is also sacred to Hindus: a temple nearby hosts an annual ritual and fair, and a cave beside the pool is a place of pilgrimage. The name is linked to the legend of a monk named Madhaveshwar. A 500-acre eco park surrounds the falls, the forest around them is home to Khasi communities, and the smaller Parikunda waterfall is close by.
