Sunamganj district guideA vast wetland that fills with water in the monsoon. It is in Sunamganj district, Sylhet Division.
Tanguar Haor is a large wetland in the Dharmapasha and Tahirpur upazilas of Sunamganj district. Including its 46 villages it covers about 100 km², and more than 40,000 people depend on it for fishing and farming. Because its resources were being overused, the government declared it an Ecologically Critical Area in 1999.
In winter around 200 kinds of migratory birds gather here, and the haor holds more than 140 species of freshwater fish. Hijal and koroch trees stand in the water. Houseboat trips have made it an increasingly popular destination.
