About Rema-Kalenga Wildlife Sanctuary

Rema-Kalenga Wildlife Sanctuary protects about 1,800 hectares of dry and evergreen hill forest in Chunarughat upazila of Habiganj, beside the Tripura border and not far from Sreemangal. Established in 1982 and enlarged in 1996, it is one of the natural forests in Bangladesh still in good condition, though tree theft and deforestation threaten it.

The sanctuary holds some 638 plant species, 37 mammals, 167 birds, 18 reptiles and 7 amphibians, and BirdLife International lists it as an Important Bird Area. Birds to look for include the racket-tailed drongo, hill myna, red-headed trogon, kalij pheasant and red junglefowl.
