Bandarban is one of the three hill districts of the Chittagong Hill Tracts, alongside Rangamati and Khagrachari, and the most remote district of Bangladesh. Its 4,479 km² are almost entirely steep, forested hill ranges, and it is the least populous district in the country.
Bandarban is also the most culturally diverse district: in the 2022 census about 41% of its roughly 481,000 people belonged to Indigenous communities, including the Marma, Mro, Tripura, Tanchangya, Bawm, Khumi, Chak and Khyang. Buddhist temples and pagodas are found across the district. Check current travel advisories before heading into the remote hills.
