Boga Lake

A lake high in the hills of Bandarban. It is in Bandarban district, Chattogram Division.

About Boga Lake

Boga Lake (Bagakain) is a natural freshwater lake about 380 m above sea level in Ruma upazila of Bandarban. It covers some 18.5 acres, is closed on three sides by bamboo-covered peaks and has no outlet: it is fed mainly by monsoon rain, and its water often looks green from algae.

A 1973 survey found the water too acidic for life, but by 1995 it held plants and fish, and the Bawm villagers who live beside it now raise tilapia here. A local legend says the lake formed when a village was swallowed by the earth after its people killed a deity that reappeared as a dragon.
