Narayanganj district guideA Mughal river fort in Narayanganj built in the first half of the 17th century. It is in Narayanganj district, Dhaka Division.
Hajiganj Fort, also called Khizirpur Fort, stands on the west bank of the Shitalakshya in Narayanganj. Its date is uncertain, but it was probably built soon after Subahdar Islam Khan made Dhaka the Mughal capital, to stop Magh and Portuguese raids, which makes it older than the Sonakanda and Idrakpur forts; together the three formed a defence system for Dhaka. Islam Khan used it in his campaigns against the Baro-Bhuiyans.
The brick fort has a five-sided curtain wall with rounded corner bastions, loopholes for muskets, a raised walkway along the rampart and wider openings in the bastions for cannon. A tall square brick column stands free in one corner of the enclosure.
