About Himchari National Park

Himchari National Park lies in the hills just south of Cox's Bazar town, where forested slopes meet the Bay of Bengal. It covers about 17 km² of mixed evergreen forest and has been a protected area since 1980. It is visited mostly for its broken hills and its row of Christmas trees.

About 117 tree species have been recorded in the park, and its wildlife includes some 286 bird species and 26 mammals, among them the hoolock gibbon, leopard cat and fishing cat, and Ridley sea turtles are recorded here. Around 4,000 people live inside the park area, and encroachment, fuelwood collection and road building are its main threats.
