About Baliati Palace

Baliati Zamindar Bari in Saturia upazila of Manikganj is a complex of seven palace buildings that belonged to the Baliati zamindars. The family's fortune began with Gobinda Ram Saha, a salt merchant who built the business into a zamindari that reached as far as Narayanganj.

The palaces stand on about 5.9 acres enclosed by a moat and a perimeter wall, with some 200 rooms in all and a large pond behind them. The family is said to have left for India after Partition in 1947, and since 1987 the buildings have been looked after by the Department of Archaeology.
