Nikli Haor in Kishoreganj, about 110 km from Dhaka, is one of the largest freshwater wetlands in Bangladesh, spreading from Nikli upazila into neighbouring Mithamain, Austagram and Itna. Most of its villages sit on chars, islands of higher ground.
It has become a popular destination, and visitor numbers rise sharply in the monsoon, when the haor fills with water.
