About Chalan Beel

Chalan Beel is a large wetland in a low inland basin across Sirajganj, Natore and Pabna districts, with rich plant and animal life. Forty-seven rivers and channels flow into it, and as they bring silt, the beel is slowly shrinking.

The depression formed between land built up to the north by the old Teesta river system, active until it changed course in 1787, and land raised to the south by the Padma, which became the Ganges' main channel in the 16th century.
