A historic railway bridge across the Padma at Paksey, Pabna. It is in Pabna district, Rajshahi Division.

About Hardinge Bridge

Hardinge Bridge is a 1.8 km steel truss railway bridge across the Padma between Paksey in Ishwardi, Pabna, and Bheramara in Kushtia. It is named after Lord Hardinge, Viceroy of India from 1910 to 1916, who opened it on 4 March 1915.

A railway bridge here was first proposed in 1889 to link Calcutta with Eastern Bengal and Assam. Built by Braithwaite and Kirk of England to a design by Sir Alexander Meadows Rendel, it was started in 1910 and completed in 1912 with 15 steel spans. Keeping the shifting Padma flowing under it was the hardest part of the work, solved with long guide banks on both sides.
